Our story

Built by hand in Vienna

How a pile of plumbing pipe becomes a figure with a name, a pose and a character of its own.

IronPunky started with a question at the workbench: what happens when plumbing parts are given a personality? A tee became a chest, an elbow became a knee and a pressure gauge turned into a face. Since then our workshop in Vienna has built lamps that read, play guitar and lift weights, and spirit dispensers that stand guard over your favourite bottle.

Every figure gets its own name, often a German one with a wink, like Druckbert, Glühfried or Kapitelträumer. We keep the work in our own hands, from the first cut to the last check of the light. That way every piece we send out is one we would happily put on our own shelf.

Every joint fitted by hand

Every joint fitted by hand

A new figure starts with a pose. We try elbows, tees and valve wheels against each other until the posture looks right. Then the joints are fixed so it stands firm on its wooden base, and only then does the wiring go in.

Iron, brass and a lot of patience

There is no factory behind IronPunky. Just a workbench in Vienna, a wall of fittings and the smell of cutting oil. We build in small runs and ship across Europe, one piece with its own character every time.

  • Black iron pipe

Real plumbing pipe and fittings, cut to length and joined by hand into a figure that stands firm on its base.

  • Edison filament

Warm vintage bulbs with a visible filament that glows amber, the light the whole figure is built around.

  • Solid wood bases

Bases of solid wood, most of them pine, give every figure a steady footing and a warm counterpoint to the iron.

  • Wired in house

Sockets, switches and dimmers are fitted at our own bench, so we know every connection inside the figure.

  • Pressure gauge and iron pipe elbow in warm light
  • Whisky pouring from the brass tap of the Tyson dispenser
  • Green Glühfried pipe lamp on a writing desk at night
